The Dlamini collection was born from deep reflection on what people carry in their heads and hearts—the joys, burdens, dreams, and daily thoughts that shape each individual. On a journey which began in 1996; Tracy and Tim spent hours observing life in communal spaces, pondering what people do, how they make a living and what they might be thinking as they wait in queues, care for their families, or navigate the world around them. These contemplations became the inspiration for the Dlamini figurines, capturing the essence of everyday life in South Africa.
Each figurine is individually sculpted from clay by a small, talented team of artists in a rural village in Kwazulu-Natal. They depict a range of characters-from goat headers and farmers to taxi drivers, flower sellers, and those providing food for their families—as well as babies and angels. The coffee-bean shaped eyes, inspired by African masks, are non-confrontational and convey humility, serenity and respect. Through these subtle details, the figurines give voice to the lived experiences, aspirations, and humanity of the Rainbow Nation.
