Working with nature is Kerry’s inspiration and ongoing theme in her work, particularly with palms and tropical plants which are so prevalent in KZN and on the North Coast of SA. She studied an honours degree in Fine Art at the university of Stellenbosch and specialized in painting. She paints both in watercolour and oils and most recently have been painting bold contemporary botanicals, tropical jungle scenes and aerial seaspaces. Capturing light in nature is a common them in Kerry’s work, light reflected on water, and light dappled through trees and the way light influences the jewel-like tones of the sea. Nature is a refuge for her and painting it even more so. To create a piece which can evoke calm and sense of peace is Kerry’s goal. If she can create a place to stop and pause for a moment in the act of looking, reconnecting and just being, then she has achieved this.
