Kim Ruperto is a South African artist whose work is fuelled by a lifelong love of colour, pattern and the poetry of fine detail. Whether working with a splash of paint or the fine point of a ballpoint pen, every piece she creates is an echo of her connection to the world – and the joy she finds in capturing it.

“Art has been stitched into my soul for as long as I can remember. At school, it quickly became more than a subject – it was my language, my sanctuary, my obsession.” Kim completed a Fine Art Honours degree at Rhodes University and this laid the foundation for a lifelong practice.

Kim’s work has been embraced by collectors and supporters who resonate with her work. One of her proudest moments came recently, when one of her portraits was selected for the 2025 Rust-en-Vrede Portrait100 Exhibition, hosted at Cape Town’s Spier Arts Trust Union House.

Kim’s work is a quiet conversation between colour, pattern, memory, and emotion. From expressive abstracts to serene landscapes and detailed animal portraits, she creates art that reflects the beauty, complexity, and connection found in the world around her. Each piece begins with feeling – an atmosphere, a spark – and unfolds in layers of intricacy.

Beneath this expressive freedom lives another lifelong fascination: Mathematics. “I’ve always been drawn to patterns and the quiet magic of nature—the underlying code that holds everything together. Years after completing my Fine Art degree, this curiosity led me back to university, where I completed a Bachelor of Education in Mathematics and Computer Science.”

As a teacher and a mom of two teenage boys, her art has always had to fit into the flow of busy days and family adventures. This is what drew her to pen drawings: being portable, precise, and easy to return to in the in-between moments. Her drawings carry with them not just images, but memories of time spent in nature, surrounded by laughter, learning, and love.
