More than just a place for art lovers to immerse themselves in creative beauty, The Gallery at Ballito Lifestyle Centre is also a platform for local artists to showcase their talent
Born on 10 August 1994, Sabelo Gumede is a self-taught artist from Stanger, KwaZulu-Natal. His passion for drawing began during his school years, where he discovered a natural ability to express himself through art.
Sabelo's artistic journey took a significant step forward when he sold one of his first paintings through a friend involved in local politics. Later, the encouragement and support of an art dealer in Ballito helped him realise the potential of pursuing art professionally. Seeing people connect with and purchase his work gave him the confidence and motivation to dedicate himself more fully to his practice and deepen his understanding of painting and artistic expression.
Drawing inspiration from the world around him, Sabelo's work reflects the people, emotions, and experiences that shape everyday life. The human figure features prominently in his paintings, serving as a vehicle for exploring feeling, connection, and the social realities that surround us. Through his art, he seeks to capture moments of humanity and invite viewers to reflect on their own experiences.
For Sabelo, art is more than a profession—it is an essential part of who he is. His work is driven by a genuine love for creativity and a belief in art's ability to communicate, connect, and tell meaningful stories.
