Inspired by nature and strengthened by family, Senzo Duma is a celebrated ceramic artist from the midlands region of South Africa whose work embodies both the beauty of his surroundings and the values he holds dear. Born in the village of Lidgetton, Senzo’s formative years were shaped by vibrant landscapes around him and the guidance of a primary school teacher who recognised his artistic potential. Although he once showed promise in sports, it was art that called him, leading him to refine his craft at Dargle Valley Pottery and later Ardmore Ceramics.
In 2018, Senzo opened his own pottery studio, creating a space where family and creativity coexist. His young son, Sihlangu, often works alongside him and fellow artists Junoth Ncube and Celimpilo Cindi, forming a rare three-generation dialogue through clay and paint. For Senzo, each brushstroke and sculpted form carries more than aesthetic value-it carries lessons of respect, love, and responsibility, as well as the freedom to live authentically without societal judgement.
