For SOÖCHI, identity and expression are fluid, always shifting with new experiences, collaborations, and creative opportunities. “I don’t know who I am one day from the next — and that feels really relevant to Periphery. Every gallery I work with, every charity, every collaboration, I completely change the medium or subject matter. My art is never going to look the same when you look back. In that way, I’m always a little bit on the outside, standing apart.”
For Periphery, SOÖCHI reflects on the passage of time and the way it shapes and reshapes our paths. “I feel like I’m drawing on how time peels you from what you thought your peace path was — what you thought was meant for you, where you thought you were going to be. With every experience, you can feel like you’re on the outside of that. But you’re still a whole fruit, if that makes sense. To me it does.”
Ultimately, her work embodies the ineffable — emotions and truths that words can’t fully capture. “That’s the point of art: to embody something you can’t really say well enough with words. Hopefully, when you see the work, it speaks louder than I can.”
